Garden

The site used by the inn is now a well-known area, but in the Edo period, it was one of the largest village headmen in Suo Oshima, and the length of the site from one end to the other was several hundred meters. The area where the parking lot of the current inn is located is part of the remains of the headman's mansion. The area around the large sarusuri (sarusuri) tree was part of the garden that could be viewed from the old mansion.
As a tribute to Fujii Hikoemon, the founder of citrus cultivation in Suo Oshima, we have rearranged the site of the former headman's house into a field and planted citrus seedlings in 2023. Over the next 5, 10, 20 years, and so on, the garden of the village headman will grow into a citrus grove. We hope that you will enjoy the growth of the citrus grove as well as the enjoyment of this house.

On the site where the old house was located, the remains of a stone garden remained. This site, which had been a wooded area, has been re-cultivated and landscaped.
The garden has been restored, and on the non-garden site, lemon and other citrus fruits that can be used in cherries have been planted, in reference to the "founder of citrus cultivation in Suo Oshima".

Large Hyakkaibeni tree (Summer)

There is a large sarusuberi tree on the property in front of the old inn, where the headman's garden used to be, with a trunk thick enough for a person to barely be able to hold it up. The trunk of the tree is so thick that a person can barely hold it. It is probably one of the oldest trees in the village headman's garden.
I had not noticed it at all because it had been neglected for a long time and was in the middle of a rough wooded area, but I found this large whooping plum tree when I was clearing the land.
In July, it will be in full bloom and beautiful flowers will be in full bloom.

Sazanka in the village headman's garden (Winter)

In winter, white sazanka flowers bloom in front of the inn's old private house, decorating the entrance. The sazanka has been blooming on Suo Oshima since ancient times, and its white flowers are pure and beautiful. Along with the history of the ancestor Fujii Hikoemon as a village headman, the sazanka flower lives on in this land. The sight of these pure flowers swaying in the wind provides a peaceful healing experience during your stay.
